Summer Reset
“Write it down,” she said. So I did.
I heard these words last week when I was sitting in the stillness of the early morning, listening to my favorite Clubhouse room, Girl Get That Money hosted by the motivational speaker Khadijah Adams. I could hear the swoosh of traffic in the distance interrupted momentarily by the chirping birds outside my office window. It was nice to know that summer had arrived again, but as I slowly exhaled the smoke from my personalized one hitter from Budwell I couldn’t conjure up any images from the Summer of 2020.
As we all begin to emerge from our time of isolation and dramatic pivots, I know my own feelings are dulled and this worries me. I’ve been sitting at my office window for over a year wishing to experience the words of the Mary Oliver poem, Mindful, taped to the wall by my desk:
Every day I see or I hear something that more or less kills me with delight, that leaves me like a needle in the haystack of light.
The warm morning air and the chirping delights me, for that I do have gratitude but I don’t feel light or shiny. And I know that gratitude will bring me hope and with hope I know more joy will arrive. But this will not happen in isolation, I need a community. This pandemic has shown us all how knowledge acquired through learning against our will can lead to wisdom, and this is mine.
My strength is not physical. I feel strongest when I am whole and cannabis has been necessary for me to learn this. This understanding came to me through my own vulnerabilities which led me to find a community on Clubhouse during the pandemic. My own vulnerabilities have been illustrated many times during the past year as I spoke with women across the country and in Canada resulting in the creation of my very collaborative cannabis community of women building this new industry .
There are times for persistence and I feel like this past year has tested this in all of us. But there are also times for resets to renew our purpose and build our reserve. The Canna Mom Show is taking a summer break because I need a reset. But I’ll still be talking about cannabis this summer with my friends Dori Wile of Half Baked Housewives and CBD educator Amy Chin, together we will be three canna moms illuminating the way on Clubhouse in the Reset for Women club. We will be talking about how to choose the best CBD products; why cannabis is good for moms; how to use cannabis during menopause and so much more.
Are if you’re wondering what she said when she said “Write this down”? I’ll tell you. She said, “When I hear something that inspires, I write it down and look at it again and again.” She explained that action is required to achieve any goal, and the act of writing down and rereading an inspiration will bring you that much closer to your goals. “That is power,” she said and I had to agree.
If you are inspired - as I am - to continue the fight against the negative narrative that was built against cannabis I know you will continue your work while The Canna Mom Show takes a break. We look forward to sharing more canna stories beginning in September 2021 like that of psychedelic feminist Zoe Helene, Dr. Lola Ohonba, and more international guests like Elana Golberg of The Cannigma in Israel. Through these stories we are building a new narrative around cannabis with our collective action which is our strength, and together we have the power the build this industry reflecting our compassionate and caring canna mom visions.
Thank you for supporting The Canna Mom Show and have a great summer.
